Capstone 1 Assignment

Q AT 690 Capstone 1– Facility Development (research/budget) 50 points You are currently working for a repair shop in another state but you want to branch out on your own and start a new automotive independent service repair business in the town/city where you are from. (If you don’t want to use your town/city you can select another location). First you have to do some research. You have located a 5000 square foot building in a good location that was previously used as a warehouse and is for sale. This facility would be considered an I-plan set up with two doors for access with one door on either end of the building. You have been able to secure a $100,000 loan to purchase the building, tools and supplies needed for start-up. The building cost $25,000 leaving you $75,000 for start-up cost which includes equipping the shop. The minimum number of stalls at your new facility is 4 but you can have more if you choose. • Develop a Name for your facility (2pts) • What town or city will your shop be located in? (2pts) • What is the population? (2pts) • What is the median income? (2pts) • What is the median age? (2pts) • What type of service facility are you planning? (full service, product specific, system specific, body shop, heavy duty) (2pts) • Based on the type of facility you choose how many other shops in the area compete for those same customers? (You can Google this information in the yellow pages under automotive service repair shops) (2pts) • Other than the stalls needed for repair what other support spaces do you need to consider when developing your square footage? (2pts) • What is the minimum square feet you need just for your 4 stalls? (Stall size will depend on what type of cars you are going to work on. If you want to start with more than 4 stalls add that square foot amount in. However that will reduce the square feet you have available for support spaces). (2pts) • What equipment are you going to need to purchase for start-up? List the equipment and the prices. Put a total on your equipment. You need to stay within your budget. (you can search the web to find new or used equipment with prices) (12pts) • Using tools such as Microsoft Word and the shop layout examples create a shop layout based on the building you acquired which should include the stalls and support space. No hand drawn layouts will be accepted. (20pts) You need to answer all of the questions above and attach the plan for your shop layout. This assignment needs to be turned in online by the due date.
